A guest post from Wake Forest’s Near-Term Central Space Planning Committee

The Near-Term Central Space Planning Project committee will host an open house on Wednesday, May 1 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Benson 401. All faculty, staff and students are invited to drop in, learn more about the project, and to share your thoughts.

What to expect at the open house

The University’s design partner, Ayers Saint Gross, will have several examples of teaching spaces, common spaces, outdoor spaces, and more. Members of the Near-Term Central Space Planning committee and Ayers Saint Gross will be there to hear community members’ thoughts on priorities for outdoor spaces, study spaces, learning spaces, collaborative spaces, desired look and feel, and amenities.

The committee would like to know

  • What kind of academic space supports your students’ learning?
  • What kind of space supports research and creative work?
  • How can our spaces – especially our student support, common, dining and gathering spaces – facilitate community?
  • What is important about our outdoor spaces?
  • What else do we need to think about?

Please be aware that decisions have not yet been made about who is moving, when and where. Instead, the open house is an opportunity for high-level information sharing and for our community to provide general input.

Only one move has been scheduled for 2024. University Advancement will be moving from Alumni Hall to the University Corporate Center as a temporary location until Baity Street is developed. No other moves have been determined.

Decisions about eventual moves in 2025 and beyond will be made by the project co-sponsors, informed by the input shared by academic and administrative department leadership; feedback from our campus community; prior campus space surveys; and the work of our project team, architects and the design team.
